Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

International Students

International Students

Welcome!  We encourage all international students participating in the nursing program to visit the International Office for general information related to completing your academic studies here at Ontario Tech.

All international students in the nursing program must complete all pre-practicum requirements as outlined and ensure they have a valid co-op work permit.

Once you have received your co-op work permit, please ensure you provide it to the International Office by using this google form.

The Immigration Tips Sheet for International Student on Practicum document provides further information for students.

Important Points to Note:

  • Co-op work permits are mandatory for practicum. Please visit the link above for more information and contact an International Student Advisor for further assistance.
  • If not already done, please ensure all relevant information/documentation has been translated into English.
  • For placement in Ontario, students are required to have a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) completed from a local police service. You may apply for a VSC from the region you will be living in for your studies (e.g., Durham, York, Toronto etc.), by providing proof of address (e.g., utility bill, driver’s license etc.).  Please visit the Obtaining a Vulnerable Sector Check  tab for application information specific to the region you will be living in.   We strongly encourage students to complete this well in advance of the deadline as processing times for a VSC may be long.
  • Please ensure any certifications completed (e.g., CPR) are recognized in Canada.

To prevent delays, students are encouraged to start the process of collecting the required information upon acceptance of your offer to the nursing program.
