Heather earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from York University in 2007 and completed a Master of Science in Nursing - Advanced Practice Nursing at Laurentian University in 2022. A Registered Nurse since 2007, she brings extensive experience in community health nursing, with a strong focus on supporting vulnerable and high-risk populations, providing care to pregnant and postpartum individuals, delivering breastfeeding support, conducting complex mental health risk assessments, and working closely with marginalized families. Her clinical foundation also includes emergency psychiatric care and crisis intervention, including collaboration with police services to support individuals in acute mental health crises.
Deeply committed to equity and inclusion in both healthcare and education, Heather is a passionate advocate for trauma-informed, person-centered care. Her scholarly work includes a 2024 co-authored publication on nurse-police crisis intervention teams, and her research interests focus on maternal mental health, community-based nursing, psychiatric emergency services / crisis intervention, and the psychological safety of nursing students. She is dedicated to advancing student success through accessible, supportive, and evidence-based teaching practices that promote critical thinking, confidence, and professional growth.
