Research and expertise

  • Background and Interests

    Connie Thurber holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and a Specialist Certification in Clinical Chemistry with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. She has worked as a medical technologist in the United States and Canada, and is currently registered with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science and the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.

    Prior to joining Ontario Tech University in 2006, Connie worked as a Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist, Point-of-care Co-ordinator, Charge Technologist of Clinical Biochemistry, Quality Manager, and Corporate Laboratory Manager.

    She is responsible for the formal proposal to Ontario Tech University indicating the professional need to implement an honours program in Medical Laboratory Science. She currently teaches in the university's Medical Laboratory Science program across disciplines but with a focus in Clinical Biochemistry. She created the Clinical Biochemistry website to enhance student learning through online audio, image and video files created to demonstrate and reinforce pre-analytical and biochemical principles of laboratory testing. This includes a mobile version of the site for use on the iPhone and other smartphone devices.
